Game Summary:

The 49ers looked to use the positive week into their home game vs the Cardinals, however they laid yet another uninspiring performance. Adrian Peterson gashed the team’s defensive unit all game. Peterson had 159 yards on 37 carries. He was able to break several tackles and earned a ton of yards after contact.

Drew Stanton performed pretty solid for Arizona throwing for 201 yards and was faced with some pressure from the 49ers defensive front getting hit 7 times but was not sacked.

Meanwhile, the 49ers shaky offensive line play continued as CJ Beathard was harassed the entire game getting hit 16 times and resulting in 5 sacks. The pressure not only caused sacks but poor throws and rushed attempts by the quarterback. The team desperately needs starting left tackle Joe Staley to return from injury, Trent Brown who was filling in for him struggled to adapt in his first start at the new position. Beathard was inconsistent throughout the game showing his lack of arm strength and accuracy but it is pretty hard to put too much of the blame on him as I’m not sure any qb could have success with the current state of the teams oline.

Carlos Hyde had an average day on the ground rushing the ball but showed his value in the receiving game going for some solid gains. Coach Shanahan should look to find more ways to get the ball into Hyde’s hands in the open field. Hyde was also involved in a fight after a unnecessary hit on quarterback CJ Beathard by former niner safety Antoine Bethe; he was one of a few that were ejected after the shuffle (Frostee Rucker and Haason Reddick exited the game for Arizona).

Marquise Goodwin continued to flash his tremendous speed but also displays his inconsistent hands as he had a few costly drops. Kendrick Bourne had his first two career receptions netting 39 yards.

The defense kept the team in this game and came up with some big plays. Eric Reid grabbed a interception in the end zone which ended a Cardinals scoring drive taking away at least 3 points. Reuben Foster left briefly with an injury but finished the game with a team high 13 total tackles. Ronald Blair came back from injury to play in his first game of the season and totaled two tackles and two assists. The banged up 49ers will look to earn their first win next week against the New York Giants.
