One Liner:

Struggling offensive effort leaves a solid defense on the field too long in crushing Week 1 loss to the Panthers.

Biggest Storyline:

In the first game that matters the defense looked like a whole new team compared to last year. The score may not reflect it well but that is due to their continuous appearance on the field.

The brightest star of this game was rookie linebacker Reuben Foster who did end up leaving the game with an injury. Before his frightening exit he was all over the field including a deflected pass that was close to being a pick-six. Foster was a refreshing sight for 49ers fans who have missed Patrick Willis and he is on a path of development that could make him another one of the great names in the 49er linebacker core’s history. When Foster went down everyone in the stands held their breath but he later walked out from the locker room and it was the best sight of the game. Foster assured the faithful that he will be back soon!

Another star on the defense was Jaquiski Tartt, Tartt started off the game rough with a blown coverage leading to the Panthers having an easy first touchdown. But he redeemed himself with a phenomenal leaping interception on the goal line. Tartt went on to lead the team in tackles and he put on an impressive performance.

Biggest Play:

Marquise Goodwin drops a touchdown pass early on in the game that very well could have kept the 49ers competitive and change the whole outcome of the game.

Tartt’s INT!
