There is a new energy around this team — the fans can feel it, the players can feel it, and even the coaching staff can feel it! There is a sense of “coming” that cannot be denied around the 2019 San Francisco 49ers.
On July 9th, starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo told PFT:
“I’m sure hoping so,” Garoppolo stated on Tuesday. “The training staff, the coaches, we’ve kind of put together a plan and everything like that. We’ll kind of assess the situation as we get closer to it.
“I’m good to go. Finally.”
This is exactly what the faithful have been longing to hear. After limited activity in OTAs, the fans have been anxiously awaiting the clearance for their franchise QB (and others). Following the year of hype and lofty expectations, people now just want to see the 49ers healthy and competing. If healthy, the general consensus is that this team can’t be worse than a 7-9 team.
The same sentiment was echoed by head coach Kyle Shanahan during a presser during this season’s organized team activities. While explaining how the roster having more depth will benefit the team significantly, he stated:
“This is the first year we can overcome injury, and you have to be in that situation.”
The 49ers were among tops in the league at injury rate and players on IR. The return of Garoppolo is the first sign of good fortune for this team and there will be plenty more ascending to 100%! We can only hope that they stay that way!
