Unfortunately for 49ers safety Chanceller James, his season was cut extremely short due to a torn ACL Friday night vs the Chiefs.

The team announced James’ release along with the signings of DL Leger Douzable and OL Andrew Gardner, per Matt Maiocco from NBC Sports

James will go through waivers but if he goes unclaimed, he will revert back to injured/reserve. It appears James was heading for the practice squad, so if he goes unclaimed it will essentially give him a red-shirt year with the 49ers. This will allow him to not only get completely healthy, but also allow him to catch up to speed in this defensive system. James will most likely have a great chance when he returns next season to build on what was already a solid beginning to his NFL career.

Leger Douzable is a veteran defensive lineman who came into the league in 2008 with the New York Giants, but did not play his first game until 2010 with the Rams. He was most recently with the Bills in 2016. He has a career stat-line of 107 games played, 91 tackles, 68 assists, &  6.5 sacks.

Andrew Gardner is a veteran offensive lineman who originally came into the league in 2009 with the Miami Dolphins. Gardner was most recently with the Philadelphia Eagles for the past two seasons. Gardner has started 12 of the 28 games he’s played in his career.
